Planmeca provides unmatched freedom and flexibility for orthodontic workflows. The Romexis software gathers all the data needed for carrying out orthodontic treatments and provides numerous tools for analysis and planning. With manufacturing capabilities also integrated into the same system, digital orthodontic workflows have never been so easy to implement.

Data was collected to perform smile, dental, skeletal and aesthetic analyses, which are considered key factors in orthodontic treatment planning. When digital impressions are captured with a scanner in the Planmeca Emerald® product line, the scan data is directly available in the Romexis® software together with the other imaging data, such as intraoral and extraoral photos, an panoramic X-ray image and a lateral cephalometric image. Next, the images and scans were accessed in the Romexis® Ortho Studio software module.
Bolton analysis was done in the Romexis Ortho Studio software module to evaluate the discrepancy of the teeth. The analysis result indicated that a stripping or interproximal reduction might be considered in the patient’s lower canine region to relieve crowding of the teeth. Further evaluations were done using the Romexis® Cephalometric Analysis software module’s automated tools, which allow tracing to be performed in just a few seconds.
The aligner treatment was planned with the Romexis Ortho Studio software module. First, all teeth were segmented with the software and moved to their target positions virtually. Photos and X-ray images were used for further evaluation while doing virtual treatment planning.
A series of transition models was automatically created using the Romexis Ortho Studio software and then exported for 3D printing in STL format. The aligners were manufactured from hard thermoplastic material over the transition models and each aligner were worn by the patient for two weeks.
Thanks to Planmeca’s digital technology, daily clinical workflows have become simpler and easier to implement, allowing clinicians to plan and complete the entire aligner treatment by themselves. In total, this orthodontic treatment took approximately 16 months. The patient highly appreciated the final result, as it helped her become more confident and social.
The Planmeca Emerald® intraoral scanner captures colourful digital impressions while also providing exceptional comfort for the patient. The digital impressions allow performing accurate orthodontic analyses of the teeth. The Romexis® Ortho Studio software makes this possible – and more, providing tools from patient engagement to treatment planning and virtual simulation of the treatment outcome. The software combines several key concepts of digitalisation, such as flexibility, comfort and compatibility.”
